How to stand out as an Architect

So, you have finally completed your Architect bachelor degree and want to start your own literal architect bureau. What can you do to stand out from all the other architects that are trying to do the same?

Do something different

If you haven’t yet specialized maybe its time you do. By picking a specialization you are more likely to find jobs in that area. Especially if it’s a niche market. After all a jack of all trades is a master of none. Find a niche that you really enjoy and specialize in it. Make sure your work is different from all the others out there and make it good. This will enable you to be the go-to guy for a certain type of building. Once you build op your renown in a city you might even be able to go worldwide with your designs.

Market yourself

You need to sell yourself. As sad as it is, being the best isn’t good enough nowadays. Maintain an online presence and upload everything you do. Don’t have a website yet? Its about time you make one. If you don’t know what kind of website there’s plenty of architecture website examples on the internet. On this website you should be posting any and all work you do. Even If its just a side project you are doing for fun and not an actual building. If you put in the hours you will find that you will be rewarded.

Don’t give up

Don’t be discouraged if you haven’t made it yet in the first few years. It takes time to get somewhere. Keep on grinding and one day you will get there. The most important part is to make sure that your work is of great quality. If you keep the work your day will come. Once you have built up a good portfolio its always easier to get clients.
